Camping has long been a popular way to experience the Welsh wilderness, however, glamping, or "glamorous camping," offers all the excitement and adventure of traditional camping, but with a touch of luxury such as real beds, hot showers, and, even hot tubs.

Whether you're looking for bell tents, domes, yurts, pods, or even a hobbit house, Wales has glamping to suit every desire. In this article, I'll share my favourite glamping sites across Wales so you can book your next getaway.

  • Brilliant Angelsey location
  • Offers pods or Geodome tents to stay in
  • The majority of the accommodation is dog-friendly

With an array of geodomes or glamping pods, Brynteg is a my overall top glamping site in North Wales. Located within Angelsey, the crown jewel of Wales, this camping site gives you access to many treats and delights, with the stunning views and landscape of the area free to explore from the glamping site.

No matter what type of accommodation you select, you'll have access to a wood-fired hot tub to relax in and spacious open-plan tents. Plus, most of the accommodation is dog-friendly, perfect for exploring Angelsey with your pup. If in a small group, I recommend the Geodomes, as they offer stunning panoramic views that you can see from the comfort of your bed.

The location is just a short drive from the coast, allowing easy access to beaches and breathtaking coastal walks, and also offers a communal BBQ area, great for cooking up a storm while meeting the other campers on-site.

  • Idyllic pods with lake views
  • Wonderful options for couples
  • Close to waterside activities and views

Ideal for couples looking to get away, Parc Maerdy is a glamping site filled with multiple options and possibilities. Here, you can stay in their wonderfully crafted wooden pods or dwell in a massive, tipi-style tent.

Regardless of the type of accommodation you choose, each property at Parc Maerdy offers a balcony with views of the nearby lake that peacefully ebbs and flows adjacent to your pods. There's also a great outdoor barbeque area and terrace to help you enjoy the soothing evening here.

The nearby lake is perfect for a spot of fishing and swimming, yet you also have the option to head to the coast that's a stone-throws away at Llangrannog to try paddleboarding, surfing or kayaking.

Make sure you come prepared when visiting Parc Maerdy, as they don't supply any bedding, and are also entirely self-catering, so make sure to have food with you too.

  • 100% solar-powered glamping retreat
  • Large and cosy geodomes
  • Built-in a woodland clearing

Beavers Retreat is a fantastic glamping site in West Wales that's perfect for all the family, offering regular and XL-sized domes and tall and spacious bell tents that can easily fit the entire group. The appeal of Beavers Retreat is the possibilities the space holds. Located in a woodland clearing surrounded by trees and wild foliage, there are opportunities to roast marshmallows, stargaze, fly kites, play games, barbeque, and much more.

Each dome has fully stocked cooking facilities, ambient lighting, and bedding with each bed. There's also a bespoke outdoor area for each pitch, which is excellent for picnics.

Beavers Retreat is entirely off-gird and operated by solar power, which is great for those looking for a green and switched-off holiday experience. If you don't want to step away from society for too long, Tenby is just five miles away, while Manorbier beach is even closer. There's also alpaca trekking on site for those wanting to try something different.

Location: Rhayader, Powys, Mid Wales

Best for: A special occasion

  • Sleeps 6 people
  • Hot tub
  • Pets welcome

If you want to mix things up a bit, this next option is less of a traditional glamping site and more like a hobbit house you can stay in. Located in Mid-Wales, Hare's View is built right into the hill, with round windows streaming light into the property. The interior of the property is well-appointed, with Wifi, Smart TV, a well-stocked kitchen, and a bathroom with a shower is also included.

Pets are welcome (up to two dogs), and a hot tub is situated just outside the property, though we don't recommend your pets go for a dip. You can even order a food Hamper from the hosts in advance of your stay, which includes lovely treats for a special occasion, or just to enjoy when you arrive.

Although Wifi is included, it can be intermittent due to the location. There is a minimum nights stay, though this varies depending on the property onsite, as there are a few different options.

Llechwedd Camping

  • Sturdy, hill-side safari-style tents
  • Located near a lot of activities and attractions
  • Amazing views from their cosy accommodation

For those looking for amazing views from your tent while also being secluded, Llechwedd Camping may be one of the best options in all of Wales. With their sturdy Safari-style accommodation perched on the side of a valley, you'll be welcome to fantastic scenery, easily viewable from the massive windows at the front of the accommodation.

Located deep in Snowdonia National Park, near Blaenau Ffestiniog, Llechwedd Camping is the perfect haven for hikers, as multiple great walks and outdoorsy experiences surround you. Zip World Slate Caverns is only a few yards away and a great activity hub with you clambering around the slate caverns that were once Wales's biggest industry. Dolwyddelan Castle and various gardens and nature reserves are also very close. You can also access the brilliant Snowdon Mountain Railway from here; you're essentially spoiled for choice at Llechwedd Camping.

The inside of their large tents is supremely cosy and makes welcoming spaces for those looking to rest after a long day out. You can access a wood-burning stove, comfy beds and quilts, a BBQ area with great views, and en-suite toilet facilities. The tents are dog friendly and can sleep up to 5 people, making them good locations for families.

  • Bonkers accommodation options
  • Located opposite a working farm
  • Near Tenby and beautiful beaches

If you're looking for something a bit different and sometimes odd, then Apple Camping is an excellent option for those wanting to stay in Pembrokeshire. The site is small but gives people exclusive access and has a lot of different types of quirky accommodations that will surely blow your mind.

You can choose to stay in their sonar submarine, UFO, train carriage, and even an Airbus. There are also the more standard Yurts and tents if you prepare, although the other options are much more unique and are one of a kind in the UK.

You can enjoy the private jet life in the Jetstar, which comes with its own cockpit, stay in an igloo that's styled on the famous Pingu character, or sleep in a gin-themed yacht called Tonic.

Apple Camping is next to a working farm, making it a great place to watch country life pass you by. Tenby is also just 5 miles away, giving you access to a great harbour and blue-flagged beaches.

  • On-site at an outdoor activity centre
  • Simple accommodation with no bedding
  • Many restaurants to eat at nearby

Being located close to many outdoorsy activities near Conwy, this glamping spot is all about adventure and makes the perfect hub for those looking to have a more adrenaline-filled stay in North Wales.

Adventure Parc Snowdonia is easily the least glamorous of the glamping sites listed, as you must bring your own bedding. This may be welcome for those who want a traditional camping experience, but for others, it may not provide the supreme comfort found elsewhere. That said, you're not roughing it at Adventure Parc, as you'll stay in wooden pods with a lovely decking area. The pods have heating, lighting, plug sockets and hot showers, with is crucial after all the outdoor activities you'll do in this location.

Around the area of Adventure Parc, you'll be able to access many activities, such as canoeing and hiking, and the site also has various restaurants for you to eat at. However, the main attraction is the surfing lagoon and aquapark, which you can play in and enjoy during your stay. Adventure Parc has many other things to do, like indoor bouldering, zip lines, and more. It's the perfect stay for those looking for adventure in North Wales.

Oak Tree Farm

  • Outdoor BBQ and Dining area
  • Two different tent options, including a luxury Bell Tent with hot tub
  • Pets are welcome

Oak Tree Farm is located near Llanfynydd in Carmarthenshire. It's just a short drive from Carmarthen town centre, the National Botanic Garden of Wales, and on the outskirts of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The site has a couple of different tent options available to book, for the best experience, make sure you book the tent that comes with a hot tub and outdoor dining area.

All are located in quiet luscious woodland, surrounded by green mountains. There is a shared toilet and shower facility, and each tent sleeps four people - with one double bed, and two smaller futon beds.

It’s well placed near between West Wales and South Wales allowing you to explore both regions on day trips from the campsite. It is also a great option for families looking for a quiet place to camp together, or larger groups thanks to the two tents onsite, though you will need to book ahead of time.

The tents come with bedding included, which is definitely a positive when it comes to packing! Electricity is not available in the tents, though the larger bell tent does have an outdoor electrical point and even comes with a hot tub. In fact, I featured Oak Tree Farm as one of my favourite glampsites with hot tubs in Wales.

The location is tranquil and strictly adult-only, making it perfect for those who need to get away and retune their minds and bodies. Each pitch has ample space for you to roam and enjoy, and their reasonably new Geodomes also come equipped with a wood-fired hot tub.

Named after two famous constellations, Taurus and Orion, the geodomes are perfect for star gazing, with a panoramic ceiling window giving you a mesmerizing view of the night sky, which you can watch roll by from the comfort of your bed.

For a more homely stay, their two shepherd huts have more amenities, such as a kitchen area with a stove, toilets, and private decking areas with a fire pit.

  • Located in the heart of Welsh Woodland
  • Offers seven individual pitches
  • Wood-fired hot tubs with every accommodation

Cosy Under Canvas is another glamping site offering geometric dome tents, but this time they're nestled deep in the welsh woodland of Mid-Wales, beautifully disguised among the trees. The site offers seven domes; five large ones great for families and two more compact options best suited to couples looking for alone time.

Each dome has a private fireplace and chimenea, a wood-burning stove, sheepskin rugs, huge beds, charming lanterns, and tea lights.

The renowned Hay-on-Wye is only a stone-throw away from the site. This quirky village is home to one of the highest concentrations of bookstores in the world and is host to the annual Literary Festival, making it a great place to explore for all bookworms. • Offer heated and cosy geodomes
  • Eco-friendly glamping site

Watermeadows offer an eco-friendly glamping experience near Tenby, tucked among a peaceful view of rolling hills and green valleys. Here you can stay in beautiful bell tents or fully heated geodomes, and camp with the usual creature comforts you'll get at home.

In their biggest geodome, The Drey, you'll be able to get cosy with an internal log burner while gazing out the massive panoramic window. Watermeadows also offers a medley of Bell tents of various sizes with comfortable beds and furniture.

Watermeadows glamping is an excellent place for those who want to explore the Pembrokeshire area more. From the local village of Broadmoor, you can hop on a bus to Tenby to visit, or the exciting Folly Farm Adventure Park, that's pretty close too. Other attractions like Pembroke Castle, Saundersfoot Beach and Oakwood Theme Park are also under 10 miles away, meaning there's a lot to explore here.

  • Cosy pods perfect for couples
  • Stunning views of Conwy Valley and Snowdonia

Tucked deep into the picturesque Conwy Valley, Waenfechan is a cute, family-run glamping location best visited for the stunning panoramic views of the Snowdonia national park and the Great Orme all around you.

This location is focused on relaxation and provides each tent with a private hot tub from which you can watch wildlife roam in their natural habitat. Despite the abundance of animals, Waenfechan is only a short way from Conwy and Llandudno, two exciting seaside locations worth exploring.

At Waenfechan, you'll be staying in their hideaway pods, a compact structure that's great for couples who want to get closer to each other. Although small, these pods are mighty and come with comfortable double beds and underfloor heating, making them cosy winter-lamping locations. They also offer WiFi and TVs and have an adjacent hot tub that's sheltered by a fence to provide privacy and build the illusion of isolation.

For those wanting to explore the local area, Waenfechan is situated near many beautiful sites. Bodnant Garden is only a few minutes away and is a must-see thanks to being voted the winner of 'The National Trust gardens Award'.

Woodys

  • Located at the foothills of Snowdonia
  • Private hot tubs and pizza ovens
  • Wine tasting, massages, and wine tasting offered

Woodys offers two distinctive and fun glamping tents, their Hoot tent and Bella Bell Tent. With a more traditional camping tent and look to it, the Hoot tent can sleep up to six people and comes with its wood-fired hot tub that overlooks stunning views of the Snowdonia foothills. The Bella Bell tent sleeps four but is a more permanent yurt structure, offering a more luxurious stay.

Woodys is a glamping site that best suits those who want a touch of the rough camping experience, as the showers and toilets are outside. That said, plenty of home comforts remain here, such as luxurious beds and a pizza oven.

The plot comes with its fruit pen and stables, helping to provide a welcome farmly feel to the location. It's perfectly peaceful enough to stay and relax all day by the tent, but there's also the option to enjoy the many hikes and walks near the plot. Woodys also offer a lot of luxurious extras, such as spa and massage treatments, wine tasting, and even a private foraging experience through the hills of Wales.

Glampio Coed Glamping

Glampio Coed 2_edited
Glampio Coed 1_edited
  • On-site Airsoft for guests
  • Deals on children's accommodation
  • Rural location on the Llyn Peninsula

Situated on the stunning Llyn Peninsula just off of Aberdaron, Glampio Coed offers something a bit different. Thanks to its remoteness, Glampio is a prime rural retreat suitable for couples, friends, and family.

The wooden pods help create a homely vibe to the accommodation, and although they're a tad small, they come with nice beds, a lounge area, and all the essential amenities you need for a good time. The pods lack window space, meaning that the best place to see the nearby views is outside your pods. Thankfully, each pod has its private decking area and outdoor seating, allowing you to unwind.

Glampio Coed has its own quirks that make it stand out. Here, you can play games of Airsoft on-site, which is perfect for larger groups of friends or families. A pizza oven is also available with fresh ingredients to allow guests to create their own pizza party.

These activities make Glampio Coed a good option for families with children, and it's made even better thanks to how the site offers cheap deals, which children costing a fraction of the usual price.
