Map of Family Resorts in Wales
Here is a map showing the top 12 holiday resorts for families in Wales, keep reading below for further details, images, and booking links.
1. Bluestone Holiday Resort, West Wales
Best For: All round great pick
Bluestone is a huge family-friendly holiday resort in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, think the equivalent of Center Parcs in Wales. Set over a massive 500-acre estate, activities include the Blue Lagoon water park, outdoor adventure playgrounds, kayaking and paddle boarding, cycling trails, and more.
There’s a wide variety of lodges and cottages so it’s perfect for families big or small. Plus, there’s an onsite spa offering everything from massages to thermal suites and seaweed baths.
There are at least 8 different restaurants and cafes at Bluestone so there’s no shortage of food and drink, plus evening entertainment includes shows, circuses, and bowling. If you’d prefer a quiet night, you can dine in by having a platter or gourmet hamper bought right to your door.
The resort is even equipped for those rainy days (and we do have a lot in Wales) with the Serendome, a giant indoor area with theatres, pedal karts, rope courses, and more.
2. Hafan-Y-Mor, North Wales
Best For: Families with children
Hafan-Y-Mor is one of Haven Holiday’s biggest resorts in Wales, located in Pwllheli, North Wales.
Activities here include roller discos, treetop adventure, pedalos, segways, cycling and their famous indoor swimming pool with water features and a four-lane slide which is great for racing down with the family.
Younger children can join the kids holiday club run by the ‘Seaside Squad’ where they’ll be able to make friends and take part in group activities, giving parents a much-needed break! They also have a large amusements arcade where you can lose many hours winning tickets which can be exchanged for prizes.
Accommodation options at Hafan-Y-Mor include static caravans, apartments, or luxury lodges. Most of the accommodation has self-catering facilities, but when you don’t fancy cooking, there are at least 11 different eateries onsite including pizza, burgers, traditional pub grub, seaside treats, and more.
3. Adventure Parc Snowdonia, North Wales
Best for: Adrenaline sports, Access to Snowdonia, Luxury accommodation
Adventure Parc Snowdonia is a holiday resort perfect for adrenaline-loving families. It originally started with Surf Snowdonia, the only inland surfing spot in Wales, but has gradually grown to include assault courses, rock climbing, zip lines, paddleboarding, and more.
There’s a range of indoor and outdoor activities making it a great year-round destination. Plus, being located in Snowdonia national park, there are plenty of great things to do nearby including stunning walks, caving, waterfalls, museums, and more.
As for accommodation, Adventure Parc Snowdonia is all about luxury. You can choose from glamping pods or stay at the onsite Hilton hotel, complete with a wellness spa and restaurant.
4. Greenacres Holiday Park, North Wales
Best for: Family-friendly beach days
Located on the outskirts of Porthmadog is Greenacres holiday park, another resort operated by Haven Holidays.
There is an onsite pool, although it’s not as big as Hafan-Y-Mor and doesn’t have slides. But, that shouldn’t be a problem because the best place to go for a dip here is Black Rock Sands.
Black Rock Sands is an enormous beach with low-tide caves and rock pools which is best known as one of the few beaches you can drive the car on making a beach day much easier if you have a large family with lots of beach gear.
There’s also the usual Haven kid’s club run by the Seaside Squad who organise activities in the day such as den-building, archery, and fun games. In the evenings, the team put on family-friendly entertainment which can include music performances and pantomimes.
5. Barmouth Bay, North Wales
Best for: Family-fun on the beach
Barmouth Bay is one of two Away Resorts holiday parks in North Wales. This one is great for beach lovers which is why I've rated it so highly, however, check out their Golden Sands holiday park below which is similar but with more onsite facilities.
This holiday park has direct access from the holiday park to one of North Wales’ finest beaches so it's an excellent choice for families that enjoy getting away from the park for beach time or other activities.
As well as easy beach days, the park straddles the edge of Snowdonia National Park with Coed Y Brenin Forest located less than an hour's drive, where you’ll find a range of waymarked walking and cycling trails that are great for the family.
The park itself contains a range of caravans and luxury lodges plus an indoor swimming pool and games room. There is no bar or restaurant onsite which might deter some, however, those that enjoy cooking for themselves will love the full-size ovens and well-equipped kitchens (some even have a dishwasher too!).
6. Presthaven Sands Holiday Park, North Wales
Best for: Lots of Family Activities
If you’re a family that loves being near the beach, then Presthaven Sands is perfectly located near a huge stretch of golden coastline, including Prestatyn beach, the only beach in North Wales with a Blue Flag award, noting its impeccable quality and cleanliness. There are also some very important dunes nearby such as Gronant Dunes and Talacre Warren.
As for the resort itself, there's a huge range of activities for the family, including an indoor soft play area, an indoor pool, mini golf, rope courses, den building, pedal karts, and more. Children and teens can also join the kid's club run by the Seaside Quad (formerly Tiger Club) to meet other children and take part in games and group activities.
You can choose between staying in static caravans or lodges and there are plenty of places to eat on site or in the nearby town of Prestatyn.
Note: This is not to be confused with Prestatyn Sands which is a nearby resort run by Pontins, this one is much nicer!
7. Cardigan Bay Holiday Park, West Wales
Cardigan Bay is a peaceful holiday park on the West coast of Wales, just a stone’s throw from the beach. Just a small resort, they have both an indoor and outdoor pool as well as regular events at the onsite entertainment complex during the summer months.
Accommodation here is mainly caravans, although there is a luxury cottage with a hot tub too. If you’ve got a four-legged friend you want to take along, then you’re in luck because Cardigan Bay Holiday Park is very pet-friendly.
The park is conveniently located near Poppit Sands beach, one of my favourite beaches in Wales that has a Blue Flag award and is also one of the best places to spot dolphins, you can sometimes see them from the shore or take a dolphin spotting tour.
8. Golden Sands Holiday Resort, North Wales
Best for: Affordable accommodation without compromising on experience
Golden Sands is the second holiday resort I’m featuring from Away Resorts. Golden Sands has a wide variety of chalets, caravans, and lodges to suit all families. Their ‘Burst of Blue’ rooms are very affordable and perfect for families of up to 8 people (pets are welcome too).
You can expect a heated pool, indoor and outdoor play areas, and sports courts. There is evening entertainment, although this is often just Friday and Saturday nights as well as occasional special events and live performances.
Whilst it doesn't have the direct beach access like their Barmouth Bay site, it's very close to Rhyl, where some of the top family-friendly attractions include the Rhyl miniature railway and the aquarium. If you venture a little further afield, you can also try out zip lining, the Welsh Mountain Zoo, or some of Snowdonia’s famous walking routes.
9. Quay West Caravan Holiday Park, West Wales
Quay West is a picturesque holiday park on the West Coast of Wales that looks out across Cardigan Bay.
The facilities at Quay West include all the classic activities that you’d expect from a Haven resort, such as indoor and outdoor pools, an aerial rope course, 10-pin bowling, crazy golf, segways, archery, and an arcade which has just undergone a huge upgrade.
They also have the Haven Holiday’s kid’s club run by Rory the Tiger and other members of the Seaside club. This is a great way for children to make friends and join group activities.
10. Kiln Park and Penally Court, West Wales
Best for: A more relaxing stay
Kiln Park and Penally Court are sister sites, both run by Haven Holidays and located next to one another which is why I’m including them together. Most of the facilities are located at Kiln Park whereas Penally Court contains lots of pet-friendly static caravans suitable for up to 8 people.
Facilities at Kiln Park include large indoor and outdoor heated pools. You’ll also have access to plenty of food and drink choices across both parks, including fast food, fish & chip shops, as well as outdoor and indoor restaurants.
Keep in mind that, unlike other Haven Holiday sites, these two parks do not run the kids club. But keeping them entertained shouldn’t be a problem with lots of things to do including the aerial adventure ropes course, FunWorks amusements arcades, tennis court, crazy golf, pottery, archery, and more.
11. Plassey Leisure Park, North Wales
Best for: Sports and retail therapy
At Plassey Leisure Park, you can choose between luxury glamping pods and holiday homes or bring your own home on wheels as they also allow touring caravans with electric hook-up, water, and even sky TV.
This is a great choice for sports enthusiasts with a heated indoor pool (much needed in Wales), tennis and badminton courts, a golf course with driving range, and access to plenty of walking trails that run near the park.
The park is located right next to the Plassey retail village, in the rural outskirts of Wrexham in North Wales. If you don’t fancy some retail therapy, other great activities in this area include the Llangollen canal where you can take a boat over the giant aqueduct or Chirk Castle.
12. Lydstep Beach
With views right across the ocean, Lydstep Beach holiday park is perfectly located for enjoying the very best that West Wales has to offer. Choose from caravans that sleep up to 8 people or a lodge that sleeps 4 people.
Compared to other Haven resorts, there are fewer onsite activities to do here so it’s better suited to families who enjoy getting out and about. Some of the top things to do near here include alpaca trekking, visiting Caldey islands, St Catherine’s Fort, and walking the Wales coastal path.
