Situated in Pembrokeshire in the southwest of Wales, Tenby has become a tourist hotspot thanks to beautiful beaches, great local attractions and an almost infinite choice of hotels and restaurants.
There’s no denying that Tenby is a destination best experienced during the day, and even more so when the sun is shining. But that doesn’t mean it’s a ghost town after dark. There’s a huge range of pubs and bars to choose from as well as other great activities to do at night which I’m going to share with you here.
1. Spot Ghouls on Tenby's Ghost Walk
If you fancy spending your evening in Tenby among ghosts, fairies, and witches, then the Tenby Ghost Walk will be right up your street.
As you wander around the town at dusk, you’ll get to grips with some of the strange Pembrokeshire customs and unearth omens, mysteries, and stories of murder that have griped the town for centuries.
But don’t worry, this tongue-in-cheek tour is perfectly suitable for the whole family, so bring along the kids and even the dog.
The ghost walk is run by Marion Davies, an official Wales Blue Badge Guide (this award proves that she provides high-quality and expert-led tours). Marion also runs a regular walking tour of Tenby during the day which I also featured in my guide to the best things to do in Tenby.
2. Challenge Your Brain (And Your Family) at Tenby's Great Escape
[image-missing src="https://walesguidebook.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Escape-Room.jpg"]
Located at Heatherton World of Activities just outside Tenby, you’ll find Tenby’s Great Escape which is a series of escape rooms designed to challenge and puzzle you.
If you’ve never tried an escape room before, you have to uncover clues in the room to find out how to escape. This usually means tearing the room down to find keys, work out special codes, and solve puzzles.
Teams of 2-6 can tackle each room with varying difficulty from family-friendly up to very challenging, which one will you try?
I’m including this as an evening activity in Tenby, but keep in mind that it closes at 7pm with the last games starting at 6pm, so don’t leave it too late and be sure to book ahead.
3. Go Clubbing at The Sands in Saundersfoot
If there’s something missing from nightlife in Tenby, it’s a nightclub. But that’s why you can head across to Saundersfoot and dance the night away at The Sands.
This club doesn’t open every night of the week, so be sure to check their Instagram page where you can find out more and get in touch with them.
4. Watch the Sunset From Castle Hill
What’s an evening without a sunset right? Well, Tenby’s location on the west coast makes it perfectly placed to catch a great view as the sun disappears behind the horizon.
South Beach is a popular place to enjoy the sunset where you can enjoy a beer on the sand as the tide comes in.
But my favourite sunset spot in Tenby is Castle Hill where you can enjoy the view of the bandstand and lifeboat station in the foreground against a colourful sky in the background as the sun sets. Plus, you don’t get sandy which is always a plus.
5. Enjoy a Local Beer at HARBWR Taproom
There’s no shortage of pubs to enjoy an evening beer in Tenby, but one of my favourites was HARBWR taproom.
There's a selection of local cask ales brewed just around the corner at HARBWR Craft Brewery, these change regularly. For pale ale lovers (like myself), I can highly recommend the MV.Enterprise if they have it on.
If you prefer something a little stronger but still want to keep it local, you're in luck because they stock Aber Falls Gin, Barti Ddu Rum, Merlyn Cream Liqueur, Brecon Five Vodka, Penderyn Whisky, Tenby Gin, Da Mhile Gin, and Brecon Special Reserve Gin.
They also serve up food with everything from homemade pies to local steaks, served with Pembroke shire new potatoes of course. There are vegan and gluten-free options such as curry and chilli.
6. Catch a Show at De Valence Pavilion
The De Valence Pavilion is a multi-purpose hall in Tenby that put on a variety of shows, both in the day and during the evening. Originally built in the 1970’s, it has had many upgrades over time and still plays host to all sort of events from boxing matches to jazz concerts, and even DJ sets.
There’s an onsite bar and restaurant so you can make a full evening of it. You can check their upcoming events page to find out what’s going on at the moment.
