Daytime Activities for Couples in Cardiff
1. Visit Castell Coch
Castell Coch is a fairytale-like, red-bricked castle nestled neatly in the woods of Fforest Fawr, and it makes an elegant and enchanting background for a daytime date. Here you can tour the grounds and the inside of this beautiful castle arm-in-arm, admiring the stunning, decadent decorations and architecture.
With a regal atmosphere and a history of being a stomping ground of some of the boujeest people in history, Castell Coch makes for a romantic trip. Castell Coch has also been a favourite proposal spot for those ready for the next step.
Unlike Cardiff Castle which is in the city centre, Castell Coch is about 20 minutes away. It's best to visit by car and you'll find free parking when you arrive.
You can check the current prices and opening times here.
2. Take a private boat around Cardiff Bay
Cardiff Bay boasts some of the most spectacular views within the Cardiff city limits. When renting a boat to explore the coastline, you'll be isolated from the hustle and bustle of the city, and, instead, have an opportunity to relax and unwind alongside your date as you bob on the calm waters.
When I did this activity it was with a group of friends but I was certainly imagining how great it would have been for couples. We were able to hire a boat directly at the pier in Cardiff Bay which allowed us to negotiate the price. However, there is now the option of booking in advance online via Berry Boats.
3. Make stained-glass gifts together
One of the most romantic things you can do with your partner is create something together that can be used as a memento of the experience and a symbol of your love. One of the more unique couple activities is making stained glass windows.
In these courses, you can share in each other's creativity and show a vibrant and colourful side of yourself, making this a perfect activity for those early in their relationship. Ideal for couples who like to be challenged, you'll be amazed at the beautiful art you can create together.
You can see upcoming classes here at Glass by Design.
4. Treat your partner to afternoon tea at Barker Tea House
For a classy yet relaxed and rustic take on afternoon tea, you can head to Barker Tea House in the Castle Arcade. Here you can partake in the traditional British pastime of afternoon tea, sharing mini-deserts, scones, and a wide assortment of teas.
Afternoon tea makes a great occasion and is perfect for a date. It facilitates chit-chat, which is great if you're getting to know a partner or want to dive deeper into someone's interests, desires, and thoughts.
5. Make your own tea blend at Bird and Blend
If you want to create something unique for you and your partner, creating your own bespoke tea blend that captures your collective personality and tastes is a fantastic date idea.
At Bird and Blend, you'll be able to sample various tea blends and mixology combinations while working together to make a blend you both adore. A professional will guide you through the process to ensure you don't inadvertently make something nasty.
You can learn more about the Bird & Blend Workshops and see upcoming classes here.
6. Relax with a couples spa massage at Voco St David's Cardiff

The couples package includes two hours in the pool, a 50-minute Isgha massage, finished off with a two-course meal for lunch couples with a glass of bubbly. The package is cheaper on weekdays than on weekends if that makes a difference.

7. Explore Roath park together
Roath Park is a large green area in the northern district of Cardiff City. The area is beautiful and complete with a large lake and multiple bridges you can walk around, admiring both the swans and ducks gliding on the water and each other.
Identifiable by its interesting lighthouse that penetrates directly out of the water and its Victorian atmosphere, there are various coffee stalls and shops where you can grab a brew as you amble in the lush green space within Cardiff.
8. Mint your own coins at the Royal Mint Experience
The Royal Mint is a vital institution for our economy and is very interesting to visit, even on your own. However, the venue offers the opportunity to add some romance to your experience by cementing your relationship forever in copper-plated steel.

Flowers are the oldest love language in the world. With each type of plant and colour signifying a specific emotion, feeling, or message, why not dive deeper into this art form with a couples flower arrangement workshop so that you can both say what you want to at each other.
In the course, you'll have access to various blooms and are given the freedom and knowledge to build stunning and personal arrangements for each other that will be far more personal than a pack of roses from Tesco.
