Welsh Cake Serving Suggestions
Here are my favourite ways to eat Welsh Cakes, but I'd always encourage you to be creative and try your own twists too.
1. Traditional
Nothing beats the traditional Welsh Cake, hot from the oven, covered in sugar! Enjoy these with a cup of tea served plain. See my traditional Welsh Cake recipe to get learn how to make these.
2. Jam & Clotted Cream
Once cooked, add a layer of jam to one cake and some cream to another, then sandwich together to serve. To finish, dust with icing sugar, sit back and indulge!
3. Honey & Berry
Great for a midday snack served cold. Drizzle sticky honey and a few fresh berries over the top of your Welsh cake for a stunning presentation and delicious treat.
4. Nutella & Banana
Great for the kids served cold! Quick and simple, spread a light coating of Nutella on top of your Welsh Cake then top it with fresh banana. Delicious and easy!
5. Cheese & Butter
Nans favourite! Ditch the sugar and serve your traditional cakes with a slice of cheese and a layer of butter. You can also replace your currents with cheese and cook as normal.
6. White Chocolate & Raspberry
Substitute your currents for white chocolate chips and freeze-dried raspberries, continue the recipe as normal. Serve with a sprinkle of caster sugar and fresh raspberries.
7. Baileys
For the grown-ups! Substitute your milk for a good measure of Baileys, Continue the recipe as normal and serve with a dollop of clotted cream.
8. Baby Spinach & Pesto
Make the normal dough without the currents. Wilt down your spinach on a pan for 2-3 minutes and dry off on a paper towel to drain off the moisture. Roughly chop it and add at the stage you would usually add your currents. Add your pesto at the same time and mix thoroughly before continuing to cook as normal.
How To Reheat Welsh Cakes
To reheat simply pop in the microwave for between 8-10 seconds. If you are reheating from frozen, allow them to defrost for 20 minutes then microwave for the same time.
If you are using an oven for 2-3 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. You can also pop Welsh Cakes in the toaster for one minute, easy for all the family.
